The hospital through its Education department is offering a one-of-a-kind, free, public education event called Taste of the Season. Taste of the Season showcases how those with diabetes can eat tasty, carbohydrate-balanced meals, and still have favorite Holiday foods using basic carbohydrate counting.
When recognized as the Employee of the Month, Cindy said, “I was shocked to be recognized for doing something I saw as helping out.” A new employee of Jackson Hospital, Cindy joined Jackson Hospital’s highly skilled Infusion Staff in January 2017.
She saw a patient waiting in the front lobby and through circumstances beyond the patient’s control – having carpooled with another patient – the individual was kept from the wee hours of the morning through the noon hour. Brandy saw that the patient needed a meal and purchased one.
Jackson Hospital performed the first diagnostic heart catheterization (cath) in its new, state-of-the-art Hybrid OR room. Board certified Interventional Cardiologist, William Dixon, MD, led the hospital’s OR team consisting of specially trained staff, performing the new diagnostic cardiac service in fewer than 6 months after the new OR Addition opened.
Director of Maternal/Child Services, Mrs. Melanie Sellers, RN, says “we are so proud to be the friendly, community hospital offering OB; each new baby brings a bright future for the greater Jackson County region.”
Tim received the Employee of the Month designation due to his caring response to a family in need. The family hailed from Pensacola but were involved in a car accident which left them without a vehicle. Tim volunteered to drive the family home to Pensacola.
When Mandy was selected, she said, “Who you are, what you do, is an example for everyone else.”
Mrs. Harrison now holds the distinction as the first patient treated in the state-of-the-art hyperbaric oxygen chamber at the Chipola Wound Healing Center, 4896B Highway 90, Marianna, FL.

Faith was recognized for giving that little extra when she prepared a color-coded chart with thorough explanation of each pill for a hospitalized patient who needed extra help understanding medication instructions. In fact, her colleagues mentioned in her nomination that she should receive a “whole jar of pickles for her approach to patient care.”
Mr. Cobb sets a positive and powerful example of outstanding customer service in his varied roles in the Food & Nutrition department at Jackson Hospital. Whether he is working the hot food service line, ringing up meal purchases, or ensuring the cafeteria is ready to receive customers, London always has a pleasant demeanor and beaming smile.
On Wednesday Dr. Consiglio used state-of-the-art image-guided head and neck technology for his sinus navigation procedures. Dr. Consiglio says, “With one particularly advanced case, the patient’s eyes and brain were close to the area where I would be operating; therefore, image-guidance technology highlighted a route away from these vital areas.”
Jackson Hospital announces the name of its interim CEO, Mr. James Platt. Mr. Platt takes the helm on Wednesday, February 15th.
Beth, a career nurse, has worked at Jackson Hospital for 27 years. She said that she “was so surprised to be named the December 2016 Employee of the Month.” Her personality is quiet efficiency so she was totally caught off-guard to receive December’s award.
Beth says, “I feel so proud of what I do.”

The Chief Financial Officer, Kevin Rovito, to whom Syrup’s Materiels Management department reports, said, “Syrup is one of the friendliest guys you’ll meet who consistently goes above and beyond.” When staff and visitors ask Syrup in the traditional greeting, "how are you doing?," Syrup responds that he is “savin’ lives every day.” Syrup is the Hospital’s everyman: courier, MedWheels driver, parade Marshall, and community advocate, in addition to his responsibilities in his operational department.
Jackson Hospital’s Employee Leadership Council (ELC) hosted an elegant evening Thursday August 11th to recognize the service of employees. The Hospital is one of the rare organizations with employee longevity and this allows it to enjoy the top 25th percentile in Customer Service per HCACHPs rating system.

Jackson Hospital’s Fall Prevention Program’s number one goal is patient safety. Jackson Hospital Risk Management Director, Ronni Bowen says, “Any patient in the hospital is more at risk of falling because they are out of their own environment. Some patients are given medication that can make walking more challenging. Our prevention program is intended to carefully observe fall-risk patients. Jackson Hospital has a fall rate of 4 per 1000 patient days, which is 22% better than the national mid-range provided by the Center of Medicaid and Medicare Services. Furthermore, none of our falls resulted in major injury.”
