Jackson Hospital selects C. James Platt as permanent CEO

June 29, 2017, Marianna, FL – Jackson Hospital announces C. James Platt as its new Chief Executive Officer effective July 1.  Ron Duell, Chairman of the Hospital’s Board of Trustees, stated the Board’s decision at Wednesday’s regular monthly board meeting.

The Board undertook its CEO search in February 2017 after longtime Jackson Hospital CEO Larry Meese moved to the top post at a Zachary, Louisiana hospital system.   Chairman Duell says, “The board is excited to name Jim as the Hospital’s forthcoming CEO; he is the right candidate for the Hospital and for our community.”

Mr. Platt filled the CEO vacancy as interim while the board conducted its search.   During his interim CEO tenure, Jim celebrated the 10th Anniversary of the Hospital’s prestigious affiliation with The Florida State University College of Medicine Rural Track program which trains future physicians for rural medicine; marked the grand opening of the new Chipola Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Medicine Center, and separately, Chipola Quick Care at the intersection of US Highway 90 and Highway 71S; and kicked-off the renovation of the old OR area of the main hospital while patients began having their surgeries in the new, 9,000 square foot OR Addition.  Jim has outfitted Chipola Fitness Center with all-new gym equipment.  He also on-boarded Dr. Rick Brunner as full-time Medical Director for Chipola Quick Care/Chipola Wound Healing and as General Surgeon.

Within the first few days arriving as Interim CEO, Jim sought consideration as a permanent candidate for the Hospital’s CEO position.  He knew right away that he wanted to be part of the high-caliber Medical Staff, employees, and volunteers whose purpose is to take care of their friends and neighbors.

Jim’s vision for the hospital is to continue to grow needed services for the Jackson County region, advocate at the state and federal levels for access to care, and ensure that the right mix of Primary Care and Specialty physicians are on staff at Jackson Hospital.

Jim is a career healthcare administrator who started out as a healthcare regulator in South Dakota, then obtained a Master’s degree in Health Services Administration as he worked for Fort Madison Community Hospital, Iowa.  Jim then expanded his career depth with several interim healthcare CEO assignments after his 22-year tenure at Fort Madison.  His professional credentials include Fellow of the American Academy of Medical Administrators and member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.  Jim is a military veteran of the United States Air Force.

Jim says, “I am really looking forward to the opportunity to relocate to Marianna and move the hospital forward.”  He and his spouse, Shelly, both hail from Fort Madison, Iowa, and will reside in Marianna in their Indian Springs' home.  They have 5 adult children and 10 grandchildren.  “We both come from a town with a population of 11,000 and feel right at home in a rural area.  We want to meet everyone and are excited to become part of the fabric of Jackson County,” says Jim.

Over the past four months, Jim has been very visible in the community as regular participant in the Marianna Rotary Club, congregant of St. Anne’s Catholic Church, and tournament player in many golf fundraisers.

Jackson Hospital is forward-thinking in its commitment to expanded services and facilities, recently opening additional 9,000 square feet of Surgery space which includes a state-of-the-art Hybrid OR room.  The Hospital is currently renovating the main hospital area of the former OR footprint to improve the patient experience.  Jackson Hospital recently expanded services by opening Chipola Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Medicine Center and no-wait/open weekends primary care at Chipola Quick Care, both located at 4896A Highway 90, Marianna.

The hospital, is a licensed 100-bed general medicine facility, located at 4250 Hospital Drive, Marianna, with 30 physicians on its active medical staff.  For information on hospital services, visit
