Jackson Hospital promotes covering your cough

Marianna, FL, January 20, 2014. Jackson Hospital wants patients to protect themselves and others from serious respiratory illnesses. The best way to stop the spread of germs that make people sick is to cover your cough. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, “illnesses like respiratory synctial virus (RSV), whooping cough, and severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) are spread by cough, sneezing, or unclean hands.” Infection control specialist Charlotte Mcalpin stated, “Hand washing is the number one method to prevent the spread of germs. While it seems very basic, washing your hands with soap and water or using a hand sanitizer gel/foam will stop the spread of germs to others and prevent you from getting sick. If you develop a cough, use a tissue to cover your mouth when you cough. Coughing into your elbow will also help prevent the spread of germs if you do not have a tissue available.”
