Jackson Hospital Announces Telestroke Partnership

4/8/2014

Marianna, FL - Jackson Hospital welcomes the InTouch RP-7 robot to their team.  This telestroke robot allows Jackson Hospital’s medical staff to use web-video streaming to consult with Panama City neurologists: Maki, Elizawahry, and Maddox. These neurologists now have the ability to assess a Jackson Hospital patient in real time, diagnose if a patient has had a stroke, and decide upon the best plan for the patient.

Stroke is one of the primary causes of severe adult disability and the fourth highest cause of death in the United States.  According to the Center for Disease Control, “Stroke kills almost 130,000 of the 800,000 Americans who die of cardiovascular disease each year.”  Jackson Hospital Nurse manager Amanda Trino states, “This device allows the patient to be assessed by the neurologist within the first ten minutes of stroke symptoms.”

Jackson Hospital is hosting a meet and greet for this new member of its team on April 8th at 12:00 pm in the cafeteria.
