Jackson Hospital Announces First Birthday

4/1/2013

Marianna, FL, April 1, 2013. Jackson Hospital invites the public to join the first birthday celebration of its Arts-in-Healthcare Program, 9am-10am, Wednesday, April 10th, in the Hudnall Building Community Room, 4230 Hospital Drive, Marianna. After a brief program, participants can enjoy birthday cake while viewing the patient artwork displayed in the traveling gallery.

Jackson Hospital’s Arts-in-Healthcare program is therapeutic and expressive; part of a rapidly growing specialized discipline of integrating the arts into the therapeutic setting. The program is offered to patients as they receive their chemotherapy in the Outpatient Center located on the first floor of the Hudnall Medical Building. Arts-in-Healthcare has been found to help patients relax, feel more comfortable, channel creative energy, and find expression through art.

Jackson Hospital was selected to participate in the University of Florida’s rural Arts-in-Healthcare expansion program in 2012. Jackson Hospital’s Arts-in-Healthcare program focus is on chemotherapy patients. Art is offered every Wednesday, free of charge, to cancer patients and their caregivers. For the past year, chemotherapy patients have participated in pencil, paint, and crafts art under the guidance of Artist-in-Residence Debi Menacof.

Debi is both professional artist and business owner operating “Outside the Lines Art Studio” in Marianna. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Art Education from the University of South Florida and has taught art for 25 years. In addition to Jackson Hospital’s Arts-in-Healthcare program, Debi has been an artist-in-residence and instructor with Very Special Arts of Florida.
The program is endorsed by Jackson Hospital’s Hematologist/Medical Oncologist David Flick, M.D., Ph.D.

Jackson Hospital’s mission is to provide exceptional healthcare to every patient, every day. The Arts-in-Healthcare program adds another dimension to the care it provides the community. The hospital is growing with its $8.5 million renovation and ER Expansion, the development of its Outpatient Center, Chipola MedSpa and Chipola MedSupplements, partnership with Chipola Fitness Center, and the addition of new physicians. The Hospital now has 31 physicians on its Active Staff, and offers medical specialties such as Cardiology, Hematology/Medical Oncology, OB/GYN, General Surgery, Pediatrics, and Urology.
