Dr. Angelo Consiglio performs the latest in high-tech Sinus Navigation surgery
First of its kind in Jackson Hospital’s new OR Suite Addition

February 17, 2017, Marianna, FL – Marianna board-certified and AAOA-fellow Dr. Angelo Consiglio performed this week the latest in high-tech sinus surgery in Jackson Hospital’s new, expanded OR suite addition.  The Addition, which is an added 9,000 square feet, contains state-of-the-art surgical technologies and capabilities.

The high-tech equipment used by Dr. Consiglio provides a clear, safe pathway for sinus navigation procedures with the least possible complication.  One computer screen projects the patient’s own images using computed (CT) technology.  On a separate computer screen, the patient’s soft tissue and sinus cavities are captured by a high definition camera to guide the surgeon.  The instruments used by Dr. Consiglio can then be seen on the computer screen exactly where they are located in the patient’s anatomy to 1-2 millimeters of accuracy.  This surgical technology is similar to how a GPS works to pinpoint a vehicle’s location on a map.

On Wednesday Dr. Consiglio used this state-of-the-art image-guided head and neck technology for his sinus navigation procedures.  Dr. Consiglio says, “With one particularly advanced case, the patient’s eyes and brain were close to the area where I would be operating; therefore, image-guidance technology highlighted a route away from these vital areas.”

Approximately 30% of sinus surgery cases benefit from the use of image-guided equipment.  “This technology provides another layer of surgical sophistication and patient safety in complex ENT procedures,” says Dr. Consiglio.

Jackson Hospital is ranked nationally in the top 20% in customer service and has excellent clinical quality scores. The hospital is forward-thinking in its commitment to expanded services and facilities with its newly opened $17M OR suite addition and the forthcoming February 28th Grand Opening of Chipola Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Medicine Center and Chipola Quick Care at 4896 Highway 90, Marianna.  The hospital is located at 4250 Hospital Drive, Marianna.
